MEF Investor Relations Program Ranked Among the Top 10 Globally

Fitch Upgrades risk rating for the second time in fifteen months

 

In an official statement, Fitch Ratings, one of the three leading rating agencies worldwide, praised Panama’s fiscal discipline as well as the steady reduction of its debt levels, with a debt/GDP ratio of 43%, which favorably compares with other countries in the BBB category. This fiscal performance, combined with high growth rates and the implementation of two tax reforms, have given the Panamanian Government greater flexibility to fund an ambitious public investment program of US$13.5 billion.

Panama receives “Investment Grade”

In May, the Standard & Poor’s rating agency upgraded Panama’s sovereign debt credit rating from BB+ to investment-grade BBB- with a stable outlook, giving Panama its second investment grade rating.

 

Similarly in June, Moody’s Investor Services awarded Panama with investment grade status, being the third rating agency to do so, as it upgraded Panama’s long-term debt from Ba1 to Baa3 with a stable outlook.

 

These ratings reinforce Panama’s position in the exclusive group of Latin American countries that have received investment-grade status from the three rating agencies (Chile, Mexico, Brazil and Peru).
